The premise

A tiny counter that has fed Chinatown for decades deserves a film, not a flyer. This is steam, told slowly.

No frills, on purpose

Kam Wai is a working counter — bamboo stacked to the ceiling, orders called over the hiss. The concept keeps that honesty and just turns up the warmth.

Unbeatable value

The draw has always been more dim sum for less. We let price live quietly on the page — the owner sets the real numbers; ours are placeholders.

Steam at home

Fresh by the tray today, frozen to steam in your own kitchen tomorrow. One shop, two ways to eat — both worth a slow, cinematic look.

i.

The counter點心檔口

It starts here: a narrow front, a glass case, a line that knows what it wants. No tablecloths, no host stand — just the exchange that has worked for years. The film opens on hands and trays, not a logo.

ii.

Stacked bamboo竹蒸籠

Towers of bamboo, lids lifting on cue, a wall of white rolling toward the ceiling fan. This is the section that earns the word documentary — the rhythm of the kitchen, shot in close, warm light.

iii.

The pleat蝦餃

A translucent skin, a generous fold, steam still escaping the moment the lid comes off. We hold on a single piece long enough to make you hungry — the close-up is the whole point.

iv.

The pull-apart叉燒包

Soft, cloud-white, splitting to a glossy filling. The essay closes on the bun because it is the one everyone carries home — fresh today, or frozen to steam in your own pot tomorrow.

Two ways to eat

Eat it hot at the counter, or steam it at home.

Trays come fresh today and frozen for tomorrow — the same dim sum, finished in your own bamboo or pot. Selection and pricing are the owner's to set.
