Jose has spent a working lifetime — forty years and counting — learning what a piece of gold wants to become. The shop has sat on 152nd Street for more than thirty of those years, long enough that customers bring back the rings he made for their parents to be resized for the next generation. There is no factory, no “we’ll mail it to head office.” The work happens at the bench, in front of you when it can be.
