Atex Designer Fabrics has sold designer cloth on West Hastings in Downtown Vancouver since 1995. From the start it has run as two businesses under one roof: a retail counter that cuts by the metre for home sewists and dressmakers, and a wholesale desk that quotes by the bolt for designers, drapers and production buyers.

Designer fabric is a hands-on business. The weight of a wool suiting, the drape of a crepe, the hand of a coating — none of it reads on a screen. So the shop lives on the depth of what it keeps in stock and on a counter that has had thirty years to learn the wall.
